It's time for a Hurricane

Should have gotten this out a while ago but here is a nice hurricane preparedness checklist. I also included some contacts for various services that area available for those with special needs.

Make an Evacuation Plan. Find activated evacuation routs here: DriveTexas.org. Or by dialing (800) 452-9292. Call 2-1-1 to find out if you live in an evacuation zone.

Sign up for emergency alerts. Make sure your device is enabled to receive Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs)

Prepare a Hurricane Supply Kit which includes these items.

  • Food

    • 7-day supply of non-perishable food and a manual can opener 

    • 7-day supply of water. (One gallon per person per day is recommended)

  • Electronics

    • Battery powered radio 

    • Flashlight 

    • Extra batteries

  • Protection/Safety

    • Extra clothing, blankets, and sleeping bags and face masks

    • Photocopies of identification, insurance, prescriptions, household inventory, and credit cards

    • List of family phone numbers and addresses outside the area (if applicable) 

    • Map showing county roads and highways 

  • Additional

    • Pet carriers, leashes, shot records, and food for each animal evacuating with you

    • Formula, baby food, diapers, and pacifiers

    • Tire repair kit, booster cables, pump, and flares

    • Medical First-Aid Kit 

    • Prescription medications, eyeglasses, contact lens solution, and hearing aid batteries

Review your home owners insurance policy

If you have special needs and cannot evacuate on your own, you can register with the State Of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR). Dial 2-1-1 or go to
https://stear.tdem.texas.gov/
